10 Fascinating WWE King Of The Ring 1995 Facts
9. Savio Vega Vs. IRS Was Just Announced The Weekend Of The PPV
The original tournament had Razor Ramon in the established eight, set to square off with Yokozuna in the first round. Certainly, Ramon's physical participation would have boosted the show somewhat, but he was forced to bow out with a legitimate rib injury sustained two weeks earlier at a live event in Long Island.
To rectify this, a bonus qualifying match was announced for the King of the Ring pre-show, pitting Ramon's ally Savio Vega (who had only been an on-air character for six weeks) against a rapidly-fading Irwin R. Schyster. Because WWE often taped weeks of programming at a time back then, all of the TV shows were booked solid through King of the Ring weekend, hence the sudden squeeze-in of a pre-show qualifier.
