Austin's first serious challenger after winning the WWE Championship was Foley, repurposed as a villainous, "corporate" Dude Love. The feud intertwined with the heel turn of Vince McMahon, giving Austin the ultimate nemesis. While Foley was somewhat peripheral to the grander story, he and Austin put together some classic matches, including an all-timer at Over the Edge 1998 that is the greatest overbooked match in history. It's five stars, without question.

Turns out, the original plans were for Austin and Foley to continue the feud at King of the Ring once more for the gold, this time inside Hell in a Cell. The plan was scrapped when, according to Foley, the power brokers in the company just weren't feeling Austin-Foley III at that point in time.

Foley, for his part, didn't exactly disagree with that notion.
