Foley found out that he would still be working inside Hell in a Cell, but it would be a non-title affair with old nemesis The Undertaker instead. Foley was initially skeptical of the match's chances of greatness, given both the lukewarm reception to his return to the Mankind role, and Undertaker's physical health at the time.

When the match was planned, Undertaker was still on the mend as a result of bone chips in his foot. The injury had not entirely healed by the night of the pay-per-view, yet Undertaker worked anyway. After the second major bump that Foley endured, Undertaker climbed down into the ring from the Cell's unintended "opening", and had to jump a bit to reach the canvas.

As was apparent from his pained limp, that jump did no wonders for his pre-existing injury.
