When The Hulkster entered the 1989 Rumble as the number 18 entry, he played the role of human tsunami, destroying everybody in his path. In keeping with the "every man for himself" tagline for the Rumble match, Hogan began cleaning house of everyone, friend or foe.

In the process, Hogan became the first wrestler to post double-digit eliminations in a single Rumble match, scoring ten in all. The full list includes Mr. Perfect, both Bushwhackers, both Brain Busters, Koko B. Ware, The Warlord, Bad News Brown, Macho Man Randy Savage, and (after having been eliminated himself) The Big Boss Man.

The Savage elimination was designed to look accidental on the part of a momentum-loaded Hulk, and segues nicely into the next entry on the list.
