A point of emphasis made by many a Royal Rumble announcer is that the number one entrant has the tallest mountain to climb in their attempt to survive the gauntlet. It's rarely noted that the number two entry has just as difficult a road, since they're starting the match together and all.

In fact, the second man in had it pretty bad early on. From 1989 through 1992, the second to enter was the first to exit. In 1989, it was Demolition Smash, a reigning Tag Team champion, that met his early fate at the hands of Andre the Giant. In subsequent years, the twos were Koko B. Ware, Dino Bravo, and Ted Dibiase, and all of them came in thirtieth place.
