The Tag Team tournament final consisted of two duos who weren't really steady teams: Kid and Holly, and Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka. The idea was to have Bigelow blow the finish, looking ridiculous enough for fans to laugh at him, so that he could take his anger out on Lawrence Taylor in the post-match.

For Holly, it was easily his most high-profile match to that point, whereas the other three all had their share of notable moments during their WWE tenures. According to Holly, when the four men laid the match out with Pat Patterson, Patterson wanted Kid to pin Bigelow. Holly says that Sean Waltman spoke up and suggested that Holly get the pin, likely as a means of giving him a big visual win to elevate himself.

Holly isn't sure why Patterson didn't go with the suggestion, though Holly didn't mind, as he was just happy to win a belt. Perhaps WWE wanted the smaller half of the team to pin the beastly Bigelow, just to fuel Bigelow's sense of humiliation, prior to the confrontation with Taylor.
