10 Fascinating WWE Royal Rumble 1999 Facts
3. Only Nine Entrants Made It Past Ten Minutes
The 1999 Rumble match was one of the most oddly-structured in event history. Most of the first 17 entrants (sans Austin, McMahon, and Road Dogg) were midcard fodder, none of whom had even a small chance of winning. From Kane (#17) onward, it was DX and Corporation guys, as well as some decently-pushed talents like Val Venis, D-Lo Brown, Jeff Jarrett, and others.
Given how much the Attitude Era catered to lower attention spans, it's no surprise that a number of wrestlers came and went at more rapid paces. Only nine entrants made it past ten minutes, and two of them (Austin and McMahon) sat out for big chunks of the match.
The other seven men lasted between 10 and 19 minutes, and included Big Boss Man, Triple H, Test, Val Venis, Droz, Edge, and Road Dogg. Meanwhile, 13 different wrestlers failed to last even five minutes.
