2. Chris Jericho Pitched The Idea Of Edge Winning The Rumble
Edge's return had come seven months after rupturing his Achilles tendon at a live event. At the time, Edge was partnered with Chris Jericho as the dual-brand Undisputed World Tag Team champions, and the injury derailed plans for the duo. After Big Show stepped in as Edge's surrogate, Jericho would use bits of mic time to rag on his fragile ex-partner, sowing seeds for an eventual battle between the two.
With Edge back in the fold for WrestleMania, Jericho was eyeing the grand spectacle as the place to settle their grudge. According to Jericho, he went to McMahon with the idea of having Edge win the Rumble, while Jericho himself would take the World Heavyweight title off of Undertaker's hands (freeing 'Taker up to face Shawn Michaels). Then the acrimony would be made more important with gold involved.
After consideration, McMahon went with jericho's idea. The alternate plan was to have Batista win the Rumble, and challenge WWE Champion John Cena (who'd get the belt back at the Chamber) for 'Mania.
