5. Road Warrior Hawk Had Been Suspended For Most Of The Summer

SummerSlam was planned to be the moment that Animal and Hawk, The Legion of Doom, would ascend to their expected place atop the WWE tag team heap. The popular musclemen were penciled in to take the Tag Team belts from the Nasty Boys in New York City. Before that could come to pass, Hawk got himself in a bit of trouble that could have potentially derailed those plans.

Animal remembers Hawk calling him up between tours in May 1991 to deliver troubling news: he had failed a drug test and would be suspended for sixty days. Animal carried on for a bit working singles matches with Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags at house shows, thinking the opportunity to win the belts had been blown.

According to Animal, when Hawk re-joined him on the road in mid-July, nothing about Hawk's suspension was ever brought up again, and the LOD continued their path to the belts like nothing ever happened.
