After Jerry Sags flipped ass-over-teakettle off of the Doomsday Device, Animal scored the pre-ordained pinfall that would give The Legion of Doom the WWE World Tag Team belts. The victory was more than just an electrifying moment for a WWE fanbase that relished the face-painted brutes; it also afforded Animal and Hawk a unique claim.

That night, the Legion of Doom/Road Warriors became the first and only tag team to win the WWE, NWA/WCW, and AWA World Tag Team titles. The trifecta was realized over a seven-year stretch, beginning with the AWA's belts in 1984, then NWA's version in the fall of 1988, and then fulfilled with the SummerSlam win.

Additionally, the two also won the NWA International Tag Team titles in 1987 when they were under All-Japan's jurisdiction, and Hawk also enjoyed two IWGP Tag Team title reigns with Kensuke Sasaki in the mid-nineties. That makes Hawk the only man to have won tag team gold under the banner of all five of those promotions.
