The opening match of SummerSlam pitted The Headshrinkers against Million Dollar Corporation members Bam Bam Bigelow and Irwin R. Schyster. The match was non-title, which makes sense, given that neither team had the belts. That fact wasn't true the previous day.

The night before SummerSlam, Shawn Michaels and Diesel won the Tag Team titles from Fatu and Samu in Indianapolis, and appeared on Live With Regis and Kathy Lee the following morning with the belts. Pretty creative way to announce a house show title switch, no?

The original plan was for Bigelow and IRS to wind up with the belts, giving the Corporation a little bit of momentum to go along with Tatanka's heel turn later in the card. Shawn Michaels claims the Indianapolis switch was Vince's last-minute idea, a way to keep Shawn and Diesel near the top of the card once Diesel dropped the IC belt to Razor Ramon. He does admit, however, that some in the locker room viewed it as a Kliq power play.
