9. The Final Episode Of Wrestling Challenge Aired That Day
Before Monday Night Raw changed the way WWE produced its weekly programming, there were four television tentpoles that moved the stories along and got the characters over. All-American Wrestling and Prime Time Wrestling aired Sundays and Mondays, respectively, on the USA Network, while the more heavily squash-oriented Superstars and Wrestling Challenge aired in syndication on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
By the summer of 1995, the former two shows were dead and buried, as Prime Time was replaced by Raw in 1993, and All-American by Action Zone in the fall of 1994. Challenge was next on the chopping block, airing for the final time on August 27, 1995, concluding a nine-year run.
Indeed, the final episode aired the day of SummerSlam 1995, with Razor Ramon defeating future ECW heel Tony Devito in the final match. Matt Hardy also appeared on the broadcast as a jobber, teaming with Jason Ahrndt (Joey Abs of the Mean Street Posse) in a defeat to Eli and Jacob Blu.
