Dwindling crowds dealt a heavy blow to financially-troubled WWE in 1995, and the roster was squeezed down to less than forty full-time wrestlers. McMahon needed to find ways to entice the consumer to want to spend their hard-earned dollars on his pay-per-view. In other words, what could McMahon do to get fans to pay to see Diesel vs. Mabel?

He decided to lower the cost of SummerSlam 1995. The previous year's show had been $27.50 (chump change compared to the $55-65 that would become standard years later), and McMahon lowered that asking price to $24.95.

SummerSlam 1995 did worse on pay-per-view than the 1994 version, the number of purchases nearly cut by a third from 300,000 to 205,000. Factoring in the price change, and SummerSlam 1995 made $1.5M less than its predecessor.
