10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 1995 Facts
5. Original Plans Were For Shawn Michaels To Face Sid
There was a story there: the night after WrestleMania 11, Michaels hung partial blame on his 'Mania defeat on Sid's incompetence, which led to the "Master and Ruler of the World" powerbombing him three times. That dissolution spelled Michaels' babyface turn, and later in the summer, HBK captured the Intercontinental Championship. His business with Sid had not yet finished.
WWE actually announced on television that Michaels and Sid were signed to face off at SummerSlam for Michaels' IC belt. However, WWE internally decided they needed a show-stealing match to give fans something to sink their teeth into. Gorilla Monsoon had just been named kayfabe President, and was scripted to make decrees with the fans' interests in mind.
Thus, Monsoon announced Michaels-Razor II: Ladder Boogaloo for SummerSlam, letting the audience know that WWE (with Monsoon as avatar) would be actively promoting stars and matches that fans wanted to see.
