10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 1995 Facts
2. Vince Reportedly Tried To Fire Mabel After The Show
When Diesel made it back to the locker room following the main event, he reportedly confronted Mabel, screaming obscenities at the apologetic super-heavyweight after he nearly broke Nash's back performing the risky move. From winning the most poorly-received King of the Ring ever, to nearly snapping the World Champion in half through carelessness, the summer of 1995 was hardly a banner season for Mabel.
According to Nash, McMahon was angrier than he was, and once the irate boss made it to the back following the pay-per-view, he was about to give Mabel his official WWE release. Nash was reportedly the one who talked the boss out of it, cooling off enough to realize it was a mistake and not an act of malice.
Not that Mabel's days weren't numbered anyway. He later injured The Undertaker's orbital bone with an errant strike at an October house show. Mabel would be finished before Christmas 1995, though he would be brought back for the 1996 Royal Rumble as a one-off, just to help fill out the 30-man gauntlet.
