Some wrestlers call it in the ring, like Ric Flair. Others, like Diamond Dallas Page, will hand you a manuscript the size of War and Peace. Though some wrestlers may disagree, to an amiable fan there's no wrong way to put a match together.

Matches featuring Shane McMahon are more apt to consist of rigorous planning, due to the high volume of contrived stunts and the like. His "Love Her or Leave Her" match at SummerSlam 1999 with Test (aka the last storyline in which fans wanted Stephanie to be happy) was meticulously crafted in the lab, as you'd expect.

Pete Gas revealed years later that he, Shane, Test, and the rest of the Mean Street Posse met for two or three days to choreograph the match to Shane's liking. There would be no improv, as Shane went over specific spots over and over until he was satisfied. Can't argue with the results; it was the sleeper match of the show.
