10 Fascinating WWE SummerSlam 2005 Facts
1. It Was The Second-Most Bought SummerSlam Ever
SummerSlam 2005 was the first SummerSlam Hogan worked at since posing with Sid Justice near the end of the 1991 edition. The idea of seeing middle-aged Hulk headline another SummerSlam, combined with Michaels' inspired work as a reborn heel along the way, would do big business for the company.
SummerSlam pulled in 650,000 buys, an astronomical number that was up 57 percent from the 415,000 from 2004. That 650,000 is only 50,000 short of the SummerSlam record of 700,000, set in 1998. WWE in 2005 was long past those big boom-numbers for anything outside WrestleMania, too.
It's also the only non-WrestleMania pay-per-view in the "E" era to top 600,000 buys, so calling it a resounding success is putting it mildly. And you wonder why WWE clings to their part-time stars like life preservers.
