Michaels' startling superkick on Hogan on the Fourth of July edition of Raw kicked off the build to one of the more intriguing matches of this millennium. Yes, Hogan would be 52, and Michaels 40, by the time SummerSlam rolled around, but this was a brand new match between two undoubted Hall of Famers. What would a match between Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels, two men that defended belts at the 1993 King of the Ring twelve years earlier, look like?

According to Michaels, the original plan was for he and Hulk to wrestle three matches with each other, each trading victories to establish parity. He adds that Hogan backed out of that plan before the SummerSlam match took place.
