6. Shawn Michaels Argued Against Facing Chris Jericho At SummerSlam

As mentioned, the Michaels/Jericho feud had become a major sensation. The angle where Michaels' face was smashed into the JeriTron 5000 was beautifully vile, and Jericho's transformation into a sourly low-key fiend with a big vocabulary and little remorse was Y2J at his best. Throw in Michaels as the perfect babyface avenger (easy to sympathize with, playing it deadly serious), and you had a rivalry for the ages.

According to Jericho, McMahon wanted to blow the feud off at SummerSlam, but Michaels reasoned against that. Putting their finale underneath of a Hell in a Cell match and a Cena/Batista clash would be doing the feud a disservice, probably making it less memorable. McMahon did concur, but wanted there to be some form of continuation at the pay-per-view. And boy, did he get it.
