That "continuation" was in the form of Michaels' attempted retirement speech at SummerSlam, due to Jericho severely injuring his eye. With wife Rebecca at his side, Michaels built to a probable goodbye when Jericho arrived, demanding that Michaels admit that Jericho was the one who finished him off.

The eventual plan was for Jericho to swing at Michaels, only for Shawn to evade the strike. Inadvertently, Jericho would pop Rebecca in the face, giving Michaels another reason to want to murder Jericho. Getting Rebecca involved was Michaels' idea, and all parties loved the idea, as it would produce mega-heat.

Jericho coached Rebecca on the intricacies of the worked punch, but when the moment came, both of them moved too closely toward each other and Jericho smashed her right in the lips. The angle worked, but it worked too well. Backstage, as Rebecca was being checked out by the medics, Jericho and Michaels were both emotionally knackered and feeling awful, until Rebecca suddenly sat up and playfully said, "Is that the best you got, Jericho?" Other than a fat lip, Rebecca was fine, and a weight of guilt was lifted off of both Jericho and Michaels' shoulders.
