Rey Mysterio defended the Intercontinental belt against Dolph Ziggler in the opener, and it was one hell of a match, Ziggler's first potential "show-stealer". The parade of near-falls at the end proved that Ziggler could hang with the best, and that Mysterio, age and injuries be damned, could still deliver.

Four days after SummerSlam, it was quietly announced on WWE.com that Mysterio had violated the company's Wellness Policy, and was subject to a 30-day suspension. However, the suspension was held off until September 2, the day after he dropped the belt to John Morrison on SmackDown in an even better match than Mysterio/Ziggler.

Mysterio was furious about the suspension, claiming that the test-fail was because of a drug that he had a prescription for. Mysterio's contention was that he was in compliance with company policy, and saw the public statement of his suspension as something that could tarnish his image.
