The Straight Edge Society was entering its death throes when CM Punk, Luke Gallows, and Joey Mercury were set to take on Big Show in a three-on-one handicap match. The flatine was Show pinning Gallows and Mercury to end the sub-seven minute match. The virtual demise of the group coincided with Mercury suffering a nasty injury during the match.

Gallows revealed in an interview in early-2015 that Mercury tore his pectoral during the course of the short match. In the Society's final appearances over the coming weeks, Mercury did appear on SmackDown with tape around his shoulder for the legitimate injury.

At this point, Mercury began to fade away as an on-air character, soon taking up the role of trainer (and later a main-roster producer). He also received unexpected (and entertaining) new life as a Seth Rollins toady in 2014-15.
