10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 1988 Facts

9. Jim Brunzell Replaced Don Muraco

Virtually every Survivor Series list from now through the late-nineties will include requisite "so-and-so replaced so-and-so" entries. That's because Survivor Series was a haven for wrestler substitutions, as superstars quitting or getting fired created the need for replacements. Booking a show with 40 or 50 wrestlers lends itself to that possibility.

Original show plans had Hawaiian powerhouse Don Muraco as part of the Ultimate Warrior's team. However, Muraco left the company in October 1988 at a time in which he admitted that his body was betraying him, due to steroid use affecting his mobility. By this time pushing the age of 40, Muraco had clearly seen better days.

The high-flying Brunzell, formerly of the Killer Bees, was inserted as Muraco's replacement in an announcement made about three weeks before the pay-per-view.
