In 1988, Hart was getting by as the masked Blue Blazer, and had carved out a respectable niche in WWE's midcard through his breathtaking agility. The youngest Hart sibling was part of Ultimate Warrior's team in the opening match, and was finishing up the sequence that would cause his elimination at the hands of Greg "The Hammer" Valentine. Unbeknownst to anyone watching, Hart really messed himself up just before getting taken out.

At one juncture, Hart attempts to leapfrog Valentine, only for Valentine to run head-first into Hart's groin as a result of a mistimed jump. Hart gutted out the remainder of his time in the match before succumbing to Valentine's Figure Four leglock.

According to Hart's brother Bret, the next morning, he found out that one of Owen's testicles had, "swollen to the size of a softball". The Blue Blazer would sit out a month, returning to the road shortly after Christmas 1988.
