10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 1989 Facts
9. Seven Of The Ten Captains Are Deceased
From that previous stat to a much more darker one. The WWE roster of the late eighties/early nineties is sadly littered with many performers no longer with us, a startling number of which passed away in their forties or fifties. The grueling travel schedule (and the measures taken to "keep on truckin'") took heavy tolls on the stars of those days of yore.
In all, fourteen of the 40 wrestlers on the show are dead, an alarming 35 percent of the participants. To make matters more morbid, 70 percent of the team captains are gone. In order, the list goes Andre the Giant, Rick Rude, The Big Boss Man, Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, Dusty Rhodes, and Roddy Piper. The first three on their list all died in their forties, while Savage and Warrior went in their fifties.
The three living captains are Hulk Hogan, Ted Dibiase, and Jim Duggan, who all live on today in their mid-sixties, and hopefully for many more healthy years to come.
