Maybe most fans thought it was going to take place on Thanksgiving Eve and let Sunday the 19th pass by unaware? But seriously, the real answer is that WWE business was in the dumps in 1995, and the buyrate for that year's Survivor Series reflected their then-standing.

Only 128,000 households bought Survivor Series 1995, putting it rock bottom among Big Five pay-per-views prior to the 2014 launch of WWE Network. The second-least bought pay-per-view within those parameters took place five months earlier, that year's King of the Ring. Mabel's coronation did a lousy 150,000 buys, but at least it wasn't dead last.

The struggles would continue for WWE into 1996. While they would begin to forge a more enjoyable direction for their product, it would take some time before the audience fully came back.
