10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 1997 Facts
1. A Handful Of Stars Did Leave WWE As A Result
For his part, Bret encouraged everyone in WWE not to quit over his getting screwed, since they had families to feed. Foley stayed, and Hart friend Ken Shamrock stayed after initially floating the idea of walking out. Some, however, legitimately left out of loyalty or disgust.
Hart in-laws Davey Boy Smith and Jim Neidhart both quit. Smith had to pay a six-figure penalty to get out of his contract, while Neidhart had to get humiliated by DX in a match in order to receive his release. Brian "Crush" Adams also left shortly after, and followed Hart, Smith, and Neidhart into WCW. Owen Hart would've left as well, but McMahon refused to let him out of his contract.
The most infamous was Rick Rude, who didn't have an official WWE contract. He worked the two Raw tapings right after Survivor Series, and then showed up on Nitro the following week, appearing at the same time that his pre-taped Raw appearance aired, an explicit eff-you to McMahon.
