10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 1999 Facts
1. It Slaughtered The Buyrate Of WCW Mayhem
By the end of 1999, calling the battle between WWE and WCW a war would be like calling King Kong vs. Stuart Little a fair fight. Vince Russo was throwing all of the dung possible at the wall down in Atlanta, putting anything on TV that remotely stuck (and some stuff that didn't). WWE was busy lapping their fading nemesis, as the divide in TV ratings showed.
Buyrates, too. Survivor Series was down slightly from 1998, but still pulled in a strong 448,000 buys. Compare that to the 177,000 buys that WCW did for their Mayhem pay-per-view the following week, and it shows just how one-sided the beating had become. When your event gets 60 percent more buys than that of your rival's, is it even a rivalry any more?
