Big Show's surprise insertion into Austin's spot paid off a rather macabre storyline, wherein Show won the WWE Championship after the purported recent death of his father. It was a poignant moment in its own way, to see Show overcome adversity, even if the serious undertones were compromised by casket-surfing.

With the win, Show joined solid company, becoming the fifth man to hold the industry's two top World titles of the time, the WCW and WWE Championships. Preceding him were Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, and Kevin Nash, each of whom he'd crossed paths with in his still-young career.

A week after Show's victory, Bret Hart captured the WCW Championship at the Mayhem pay-per-view, becoming the sixth member of the list.
