10 Fascinating WWE Survivor Series 2002 Facts
6. Triple H Lobbied For War Games
The Elimination Chamber match (aside from the Money in the Bank ladder match) is probably the most recent WWE gimmick match creation with proven lasting power as an acceptable pay-per-view-ender. The rules are simple, the match assures some level of brutality, and it's at least somewhat comparable to Hell in a Cell in that when it's brought into play, the match concept draws some "oohs".
Its similarity to War Games (a cage match with participants entering at timed intervals) is no coincidence. Triple H, an admitted mark for the territorial wrestling that he grew up enjoying, had lobbied long and hard for War Games to be a part of Survivor Series 2002.
The Chamber was invented as a compromise, since McMahon is known for valuing in-house creations over outside ideas. It took until 2017 for Triple H to get his War Games wish, and go figure, it's not even for WWE's main roster show.
