The more that singles matches became a part of the Survivor Series diet, the more likely that main event players were going to be excused from taking part in elimination matches. From 1997 through 2003, Triple H embodied that mindset, avoiding elimination matches in that stretch. Those seven shows include three World title matches, a main event match with Austin, and three Survivor Series that he didn't wrestle on at all.

Prior to captaining a team of Batista, Edge, and Gene Snitsky in 2004, Helmsley's last elimination match at Survivor Series was in 1996, when he led a team that included Goldust, Crush, and Jerry Lawler. Overall, it was Helmsley's third Survivor Series elimination match in his near-decade with the company.
