It was déjà vu from 2003, as Shawn Michaels did his damnedest to come back from three-on-one odds, bringing it down to him vs. Randy Orton, but falling just short. Orton's victory for the SmackDown side may not have meant much in the grand scheme of things, but it did bring "The Viper" into some shared history.

Orton's survival made him the fifth person overall (to that point) to survive three times, joining Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, and John Cena. With the exception of Cena, Orton joined the previous three-timers as having done so at three consecutive Survivor Series events.

Orton would have more Survivor Series victories in his future, and those would allow him to break a few records in the process.
