It was Mr. WrestleMania vs. Mr. Survivor Series. Shawn Michaels challenged for Randy Orton's WWE Championship with the result being a pretty enjoyable match, and a much-needed big-boy win for Orton.

For 'The Viper', it was his fifth Survivor Series event, and the first in which he didn't take part in an elimination match. From 2003-05, Orton was sole survivor for his respective teams, while in 2006 he was the last man to be eliminated from his quintet. The Michaels match was his first solo effort at the event.

It should be noted just how important those elimination matches were for Orton, giving him visible wins in relevant matches. While in some years the elimination bouts feel like throwaways just to reinforce the spirit of the Survivor Series name, they did young Orton a lot of good.
