Unmentioned to this point was that Survivor Series marked the return of John Cena following neck surgery. In the main event, Cena won the World Heavyweight title for the first time in his career, defeating a red-hot Chris Jericho.

During Cena's celebration, Jerry Lawler threw in what sounded like a fun historical footnote: this was the first time that both the WWE and World Heavyweight belts changed hands at any Survivor Series, with Edge and Cena respectively winning them.

That was actually false. At 2002's show, Big Show won the WWE Championship from Brock Lesnar, while Shawn Michaels captured the World Heavyweight belt inside the first ever Elimination Chamber match. Whoever fed that line to Lawler (read: probably Vinnie Mac) either got some bad intel, was trying too hard to add historic value, or (most likely) both.
