It's a bit irksome when, usually for time reasons, a Survivor Series elimination match begins with a flash pin, somebody getting taken out while the bell chime is still echoing. That was the case in 2008 when CM Punk snatched Intercontinental Champion William Regal and sent him packing in twelve seconds with a Go to Sleep.

Turns out that Regal legitimately needed some sleep. It was reported that Regal had fallen ill during the company's European tour a couple weeks earlier, and it was decided to eliminate him right at the onset.

Regal did not return to action until shortly after Christmas, engaging in a brief feud with Punk over the IC title. Until then, Regal generally did guest commentary spots on Raw during a number one contender's tournament, ostensibly scouting his future opponent.
