The concocted Jeff Hardy story (you know, the one where he was found unconscious in a hotel) was reported by WWE.com in very serious tones, as though it were a legitimate news story, straying from the normally-kayfabed website writings. When Lilian Garcia tells the crowd before the show which news outlets had apparently reported on it (naming CNN, TMZ, and others), it just piled on the tackiness for what's supposed to represent a jarring "reality".

For TMZ's part, their snoops got on the case, personally calling different Boston hospitals to inquire whether or not Hardy had been admitted as a patient following this ambiguous medical crisis. All of them informed TMZ that Hardy had not been brought in at any point that day, so the work was quickly exposed. Nonetheless, there was just so much bad taste (paralleling actual wrestler deaths, hawking media outlets to show how "real" it was) for the angle to be compelling in any way.
