Conspicuous by his absence from the 2012 Survivor Series was one Cody Rhodes, a previous two-time survivor, as well as partner of Damien Sandow. Sandow was on the heel side of the five-on-five elimination match, and with Team Hell No on the opposite crew, you'd figure Rhodes would be in there.

Well, he was supposed to be, but the injury bug bit. Rhodes ended up badly injured five days before the pay-per-view during the Main Event tapings. Rhodes took a backdrop from Kane during a Tag Team title match, and landed badly, sustaining a concussion, in addition to injuring his shoulder and surrounding muscles.

Incredibly, Rhodes was back in the ring the following month, resuming the Rhodes Scholars partnership upon his return. But for Survivor Series, Otunga was pressed into duty.
