7. Lex Luger Was Told Around SummerSlam He'd Be Getting The Belt At WrestleMania
It remains baffling all these years later, even with knowing the reasoning and "logic", why Lex Luger so merrily celebrated his countout win over Yokozuna at SummerSlam, when he didn't win the World Championship. The pre-match stipulation stressed that it was Luger's one and only shot at the gold, so America's new principled hero looked a tad foolish beneath the balloons and streamers.
It seemed WWE had just the deus ex machina in mind to override that clause: Luger would just simply win the Royal Rumble to earn a shot at the gold anyway. Dave Meltzer, confused as anyone as to why SummerSlam ended without Luger winning the belt, personally inquired to Luger and his WWE sources in the days following that show, and was told the same thing by all: Luger's getting it back at WrestleMania, because Vince wanted to build the chase.
