If you watched WrestleMania 10 the day it happened, you were probably surprised to see Mr. Perfect show up as a guest referee. If you were a Lex Luger fan, you probably loathed Perfect for his questionable officiating in Luger's (second) failed bid for Yokozuna's World Championship. The post-Mania plans had Luger and Perfect going head to head across the country, but they weren't meant to be.

Curt Hennig suffered a broken foot sometime in early to mid-April 1994, and was replaced in scheduled house show matches against Luger with Crush. Hennig's WWE contract expired late in 1994, and it had been suggested that he was financially well off to the point where he was in no hurry to return to the ring.

Probably incensed by Perfect backing out of big plans, on the April 25 episode of Raw, not only did WWE announce Crush as Perfect's replacement, but the announcers told the audience that Perfect was skipping out because he was afraid of Luger. Commentator Randy Savage, fresh off of feuding with Crush, even added that Crush was tougher than Perfect.
