10 Fascinating WWE WrestleMania 14 Facts
4. Undertaker Was Prepared To Confront Michaels If He Tried Anything Funny
The old Heartbreak Kid adage of not laying down for anybody extended to Michaels' real-life attitude. He was already viewed as petulant, selfish, and somewhat-uncooperative prior to Montreal, and that incident did zero favors for his fragmented image. WrestleMania 14 was clearly Steve Austin's time to reign as company flagbearer, and thus Michaels was going to have to take the fall.
It's been noted by Jim Cornette and strongly implied by Austin himself that The Undertaker taped up his fists before Michaels' entrance, and waited by the curtain. This was done to let Michaels know that if he did anything to avoid doing right by Austin and the company, he was in for a world of pain.
Michaels' version of events doesn't include the fist-taping, but does admit that Undertaker told everybody that if the ending didn't go down correctly, that he would absolutely have pummeled Shawn as soon as the dust settled.
