In the first sixteen WrestleManias, the WWE Tag Team championships changed hands eight times (nine times, counting the pre-show of WrestleMania 12). Edge and Christian retrieved the belts from the skyhook at the end of X7's TLC match, and WrestleMania has gone without a Tag Team title change on the pay-per-view card ever since.

The only swapping of Tag belts since then took place on the pre-show of WrestleMania 25, when Carlito and Primo toppled John Morrison and The Miz to unify the belts of Raw and SmackDown.

From WrestleMania 18 onward, there have been 12 Tag Team Championship matches on "The Grandest Stage", with five taking place on the pre-show. The seven pay-per-view bouts all resulted in zero title changes, the most recent being Kane and Daniel Bryan retaining over Dolph Ziggler and Big E at WrestleMania 29.
