This one is a bit hard to fathom, given how the events were only four years apart (1996 and 2000). Granted, the WWE landscape changed dramatically in those few years, but you'd think Helmsley wouldn't be alone in bridging the two shows as a wrestler.

Counting the pre-show, there were only four other wrestlers at WrestleMania 12 that were active performers come the time of WrestleMania 2000: Steve Austin, The Undertaker, Phineas Godwinn (as Mideon), and Davey Boy Smith. Austin and Undertaker were both notably injured at the time, as was Mideon (who was once rumored to be in the Hardcore battle royal). Bulldog was still under contract, but essentially on the outs with the company.

So yes, Triple H loses in 90 seconds in 1996, then wins a 36-minute main event four years later. That's the business for ya.
