A year earlier, The Rock and John Cena headlined a WrestleMania that grossed $8.9 million at the box office. Their rematch took place beneath threatening clouds on a somewhat-unseasonably cold April night, in front of unhappy, cranky, and weather-fatigued fans. All of that said, WWE had passed a lofty milestone on that night.

WrestleMania 29 did $12.3 million in ticket revenue, which is a 38.2 percent increase from the previous year. This was in spite of the fact that the difference in attendance between the two shows was negligible, about 2,000 fans or so.

One could argue that WWE made the right decision by going Cena vs. Rock a year after running it once, while others would point out that the WrestleMania name alone would've sold out MetLife Stadium anyway.
