10 Fascinating WWE WrestleMania 29 Facts
1. The Buyrate Was Markedly Down From The Previous Year
Cena/Rock was about more than just box office numbers. Vince McMahon saw the 1.217 million buys that WrestleMania 28 did, an all-time WWE record, with the mega-stars on top, and wanted to see if he could surpass even that divine total. Going with the rematch was a risk, since fans had already seen it once, but after sweetening the rivalry with the WWE Championship, that's what he decided to go with.
Unfortunately, WrestleMania 29 fell short. It did manage 1.048 million buys, which is good enough for the sixth most in WWE history, and it's one of only eight wrestling pay-per-views to top one million buys (naturally, all are WrestleManias).
Nonetheless, the buyrate was down 13.9 percent from the year before, so the demand for a Rock/Cena rematch wasn't quite as strong as it previously had been. And with WWE Network cutting deeply into the pay-per-view market beginning the following year, WrestleMania 29 will likely be the last wrestling pay-per-view to breach that million mark.
