10 Fascinating WWE WrestleMania 31 Facts
2. The Ending To The Main Event Was Changed Very Late In The Show
While WWE absolutely preferred to end WrestleMania 31 with a Roman Reigns win, they were experiencing some cold feet. The overall fan response to Reigns, and the swiftness with which he'd been pushed, had the shot-callers questioning whether or not they were doing the right thing. Seth Rollins was Triple H's "Plan B" in the Evolution-Shield feud, and was a real life "Plan B" when it came to WrestleMania 31.
During the Rock/Rousey segment, head road agent Michael Hayes summoned Reigns, Lesnar, Rollins, and Paul Heyman into a room to tell them that the plan had changed, and they had put together a new finish that involved Rollins cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase, and winning the belt. It should be noted that when Lesnar signed a new deal with WWE a week earlier, he was made aware of the back-up plan involving Rollins potentially winning.
For the time being, the surprise ending was a far better option than plowing through with Reigns as champion despite the negative response. WWE had kept those plans in their back pocket, but only decided to employ them as the time drew nearer.
