We're 36 WrestleManias deep at this point, a colossal amount of Grandest Stage of Them Alls that, for fear of stating the obvious, covers five decades worth of professional wrestling talent. Yes, WWE has an obsession with the past, but not even Vince McMahon is dredging up talent from WrestleMania I to beat young stars at WrestleManias in the 2020s. Well, not yet, anyway...

WrestleMania 36 saw the 500th competitor take the ring at the Showcase of the Immortals. Does that make them all immortal? Hulk Hogan's branding office might have something to say about that, but the honour of being 'Mania's 500th fell upon one of the young bucks taking part in the WWE RAW Tag Team Championship match. Going alphabetically, Austin Theory can hang his hat on that tag forever and ever. The Garganos must be so proud.

500 wrestlers is a lot of wrestlers. From Tito Santana and The Executioner all the way through to Montez, Dawkins, Garza and Theory, the history of WrestleMania is just about as 'who's who' as it gets. Going into WrestleMania 37 the number sits at 502, with a number of 'Mania debuts scheduled for the two-night extravaganza.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
