While popularly known as the 'Samoan Submission Machine', Samoa Joe’s trademark finisher the Muscle Buster, an electric chair version of the Kinniku Buster, had been his favoured finisher en route to capturing ROH and TNA gold. Joe had maintained the use of the move following his debut in NXT in 2015, and even became the first ever two-time NXT champion by way of the Muscle Buster.

However, when Tyson Kid was injured on the receiving end of the move in a dark match before Joe’s main roster debut, the Muscle Buster was quietly retired. When Joe finally debuted on the RAW roster in January 2017, his rear naked choke, the Coquina Clutch, had become the centerpiece of his arsenal.

While it's understood Kidd’s injuries were only compounded by the move, not caused by it directly, such is his popularity within the WWE that the move is de facto banned out of respect to him and the way his career was brought to an untimely demise.
