10 Forgotten Classics From The Undertaker's WWE Career
7. Vs. Rey Mysterio - Royal Rumble 2010
Given how excellent both men had a reputation of being in the ring, it's really quite frustrating that we don't talk about the fact that The Undertaker and Rey Mysterio met in a World Heavyweight Championship match on PPV. Perhaps it's down to the fact that there wasn't all that much of a feud leading up to it, or maybe it was just because it wasn't quite the 5-star spectacle that these two undoubtedly could have delivered in their respective primes, but their Royal Rumble 2010 collision deserves a lot more love.
A very well-worked contest, it was essentially a match of two stories: Mysterio's attempts to take the bigger 'Phenom' down and The Taker's attempts to diffuse his smaller opponent's lightning-speed. And this made for some great in-ring action, as Mysterio's quick offense would lead to a string of enjoyably non-stop moments only for them to be stopped dead in their tracks by a high-impact blow from the Champion.
Similarly, 'Taker would attack from a distance so as to not fall into a trap the crafty high-flying veteran had laid, only to slip up by going to the well one too many times. Granted, this prevented him from delivering some of the fast-paced spots he was also renowned for, but he played the role of dominant champion a lot smoother than most - occasionally fastening things up when he saw fit.
Their contrasting styles worked really well together, and it's worth it alone for that positively brilliant 619 into the Last Ride finishing sequence.
