Either Jon Moxley himself changed this or somebody backstage had a word - it's hard to pinpoint.

Look back to Mox's early run as Dean Ambrose on WWE's main roster and you'll see him hit a different version of the Dirty Deeds. It's more of an underhook DDT in AEW today, but that wasn't the case when Deano was running rampant with his Shield buddies from late-2012 onwards. Nope, Dirty Deeds was a little less standard.

Ambrose hooked opponents into a bulldog-style grip, then forced their heads forward by driving them into the mat. It looked violent as all hell, which fit his 'Loose Cannon' style, but far too many wrestlers took a regular front face DDT bump instead of being spiked, so the move lost a bit of oomph.

Later, Moxley revealed during interviews that he had doubts about the move after attempting to hit it on Randy Orton in 2013. Orton was too tall to make the lock-on moment look good, so perhaps that's when Dean decided it was time to mix things up and do his best Cactus Jack instead.
