10 Forgotten Gems From WWF's New Generation Era

1. Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (Survivor Series 1996)

In one of the most iconic moments in WWE history, when Bret Hart put the sharpshooter on Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 and the Rattlesnake passed out from the blood, it became legendary and wrestlers still talk about that match almost 20 years later. But where that feud all started was a few months before back at the 1996 Survivor Series when Austin was trying to make a name for himself by battling the returning hero, Bret Hart. The match took place in Madison Square Garden where for 30 minutes, Bret Hart and Steve Austin had a phenomenal match. Although it wasn't on as big a stage as WrestleMania, this encounter is just as valid as its WrestleMania counterpart from a few months later. The loss to Bret Hart at Survivor Series would propel the Stone Cold character to win the 1997 Royal Rumble and become the most exciting part of WWF TV in early 1997. If you think of a great movie and a sequel that is just as good, that's what Survivor Series 1996 and WrestleMania 13 are in this case. You can't have one without the other. Again, just as I mentioned about in the first entry of this list, nobody made a star look better in defeat than The Hitman! I hope you've enjoyed the list and will check out any of the matches you've not seen. Let me know what you think of the matches in the comments!
